Axel Posluschny to Offer Stigler Lecture on Celtic Hillforts Today

The Department of Anthropology at the J. Wiliam Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will present a lecture by Axel Posluschny, director of research at the Keltenwelt am Glauberg, Germany, tonight.

His lecture is titled, "Early Celtic 'Princely' Hillforts: Understanding socio-archaeological problems through landscape archaeology." The talk will discuss the emergence of powerful Iron Age chiefdoms in the Transalpine region of Europe during the mid-first millennium B.C., using geospatial approaches.

This lecture will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in Giffels Auditorium, Old Main 201, on the University of Arkansas campus. The lecture is open to the public and university community. There will be a reception to follow.

The lecture is a part of the Robert L. Stigler Lecture in Anthropology and Archeology series. The series is supported through a trust established by Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Stigler of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in their son's memory. Its purpose is to bring distinguished scholars to address the university community and the public on diverse archeological topics. The Stiglers' generous endowment of this lecture series is an especially fitting memorial to their son, who enjoyed a wide-ranging professional career in archeology, and provides opportunities for all to share in the knowledge of past peoples and cultures.
