Industrial Engineering Student to Receive Prestigious Scholarship

Industrial engineering senior, Anthony Woods, has received notification he has been selected by the Society for Health Systems to receive a scholarship for the 2017-18 academic year.

Anthony says he chose industrial engineering because he is interested in analyzing and improving systems. Having a natural interest in systems and robotics, he is working on a research thesis in the area of retail collaborative robotics with Harry Pierson, assistant professor of industrial engineering.

During the 2016-2017 academic year, Anthony served as the treasurer of Alpha Pi Mu, the Industrial Engineering Honor Society. He is also very involved and serves in leadership of the Christian fraternity, Beta Upsilon Chi (BYX). In addition, he has served as a math tutor for the Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS+) at the University of Arkansas where he shares his passion for math and learning with other students.

The Society for Health Systems is a society of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, a professional association that serves the professional needs of industrial engineers throughout the world. SHS serves the needs of healthcare professionals throughout the world by contributing to the improvement of healthcare processes through systems engineering, analysis and process improvement methods.

Among the society's goals are to enhance the career development and continuing education of professionals who use industrial and management engineering expertise for productivity and quality improvement in the health care industry. SHS encourages the exchange of ideas and innovative techniques among healthcare professionals through a variety of mediums.

The more than 900 members of SHS are made up of management engineers, nurses, CEOs, directors of continuous improvement, administrators, clinicians, physicians, department managers and students.
