University Recreation Hiring Lifeguards, Offering Lifeguard Certification Course

As summer approaches and the temperature rises, so does the demand for lifeguards. University Recreation is currently hiring lifeguards for the summer 2017 season, as well as offering a lifeguard certification course that is open to members of the general public.

Students and non-students alike can apply for the UREC lifeguard position, which requires a current lifeguard certification. Lifeguards will monitor the Olympic-sized pool in the HPER Natatorium. Both weekday and weekend positions are available and compensation is $10 per hour. To learn more about the position and its requirements, visit jobs.uark.edu.

For those without a lifeguard certification, UREC has a solution. This valuable certification opens opportunities to work for the summer or even year-round, and is valid for two years.

Two classes are offered this spring, on April 6-9 and May 4-7. While the class is open to the general public, some prerequisites must be met to take the course. These include, but are not limited to: having ability to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water using only the legs for at least two minutes, exit the water without stairs or a ladder, and more. Participants must also be at least 15 years of age.
