Architect Julie Snow to Present 'Expansion/Distillation' Lecture April 11 in Little Rock

The U.S. Land Port of Entry in Van Buren, Maine, received a 2016 Institute Honor Award for Architecture from the American Institute of Architects, among other honors.

LITTLE ROCK - Julie Snow will present a lecture at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Arkansas Arts Center, at Ninth and Commerce streets in Little Rock. The lecture, titled "Expansion/Distillation," will follow a 5:30 p.m. reception.

Snow, FAIA, is the founding principal at Snow Kreilich Architects, a studio-based practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The studio's interest in pragmatic and critical programmatic reflection results in innovative designs that expand the understanding of architectural performance. 

Snow has held several visiting professor positions, including those at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, University of Southern California and Washington University in St. Louis. She was also a professor at the University of Minnesota College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (now College of Design), where she received the Ralph Rapson Award for Distinguished Teaching. In 1998, the New York Architectural League selected Snow as an "Emerging Voice." In 2011, she was awarded the Architecture Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

The practice has been recognized with numerous awards, including the AIA Honor Award, Progressive Architecture Design Award, the Chicago Athenaeum's American and International Architecture Awards, and the Design Distinction Award from I.D. magazine.

The 2016-17 June Freeman Lecture Series is sponsored by the Architecture and Design Network with support from the Arkansas Arts Center, the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, the Central Arkansas section of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and community members.
