FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Data analytics and data science are an important part of the research mix at the University of Arkansas. Topics such as cybersecurity, bio-informatics, visual analytics, and virtual and augmented reality are in the news almost daily, and in the U of A’s research labs as well.

The annual Research Showcase, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 10 at the Arkansas Union, will feature poster presentations by faculty and graduate students from the University of Arkansas’ eight existing centers that specialize in data analytics and data science.

The centers are the:

  • Arkansas Security Research and Education Institute

  • Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies

  • Center for Information Security and Reliability

  • Cybersecurity Center for Secure, Evolvable Energy Delivery Systems

  • Information Technology Research Institute

  • Institute for Advanced Data Analytics

  • Center for Innovation in Healthcare Logistics

  • Tesseract Center for Immersive Technology.

Examples of the ways this type of research is used include a 3-D virtual recreation of the World War II Japanese-American internment camp in Rohwer, Arkansas, hardening the nation’s energy grid against cyberattacks, applying advanced supply-chain logistics to reduce health care costs, and using immersive video gaming technology to teach history, art and literature.

The goal of the showcase is to encourage discussion and collaboration among researchers, and get the word out about the discoveries and technologies coming from the University of Arkansas.
