Journalism Days Features NPR's David Bianculli as Roy Reed Lecture Series Guest Speaker April 12

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 2017 Roy Reed Lecture Series will feature guest speaker David Bianculli, noted television critic and radio personality. The lecture takes place at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House at the corner of Maple Avenue and Razorback Road, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017. It is free and open to the public.
Bianculli is the founder and editor-in-chief of tvworthwatching.com. He is also known as a television critic for NPR's Fresh Air. His 2009 book, Dangerously Funny: The Uncensored Story of the "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour," has been purchased for film rights. The Platinum Age of Television: From I Love Lucy to The Walking Dead, How TV Became Terrific was published in 2016.
Sponsored by the Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, the Roy Reed Lecture Series honors Roy Reed, a University of Arkansas journalism professor emeritus and former New York Times reporter. The event is part of Journalism Days, an annual series of events featuring guest speakers, student activities and alumni events.
Students will have the opportunity to attend guest lectures throughout the week featuring Journalism alumni currently working in broadcast, newspaper, magazine, advertising and public relations.
The week of Journalism Days also features a Scholarship Awards Reception, announcing recipients of nearly $90,000 in academic scholarships. Journalism students who have received scholarship awards for the 2017-18 academic year will be honored at a reception with faculty, staff, scholarship donors and friends. About the Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism: The Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism contains three areas of concentration: editorial/news sequence, broadcast radio and television sequence, and advertising and public relations sequence. The department is home to 23 professors and instructors and approximately 680 students. The Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism provides the greatest scholarship opportunities for students within the Fulbright College.
