Music Professor Collaborates on New CD Release

Cory Mixdorf, assistant professor of trombone in the Department of Music at the University of Arkansas, is featured in a recent CD released by the Artists of the Southeast Trombone Symposium. Mixdorf has been a member of the performing group since 2010. The ensemble was featured at the 2013 International Trombone Festival.
The musicians in the ensemble hold positions with the New York Philharmonic, the New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra (Zurich), the Alabama Symphony, and the Houston Symphony. A number of members also hold faculty positions at some of the nation's most distinguished music programs. Several members of the ensemble have been guest artists at the University of Arkansas, primarily as part of the annual Arkansas Trombone Workshop.
The recently published CD, titled Legacy, features Symposium faculty and guest artists from around the world. Mixdorf performed in a mass ensemble on a number of selections that include music by Jack Wilds, Andrew J. Skaggs, Joe Buono, and John Williams, among others. The recording features the STS faculty and guest artists in trombone ensemble settings ranging from quintets to the full 30-member STS Professors Choir. The CD is available for online ordering now, and will be on iTunes and other download services in early April 2017. The CD was recorded in Legacy Hall at Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music, which has been home to a number of other fine brass recordings.
The Southeast Trombone Symposium is held each year at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. The Symposium features a full week of faculty performances, informative masterclasses, and opportunities for attendees to perform in trombone quartets and trombone choirs. The 2017 faculty includes: Colin Williams and George Curran of the New York Philharmonic, Nathan Zgonc of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and Bill Thomas of the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich. James Markey of the Boston Symphony Orchestra will be featured as a guest faculty member for the 2017 Symposium.
