World Renowned Guitarist, David Leisner, to Give Public Workshop
Internationally renowned guitarist David Leisner will give a classical guitar workshop in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28. Leisner will discuss his career as a musician and composer as well as techniques, performance practice, and the classical guitar repertory. The workshop is free and open to the public including all students, staff, and faculty on campus.
"Among the finest guitarists of all time," according to American Record Guide, David Leisner's career began auspiciously with top prizes in both the 1975 Toronto and 1981 Geneva International Guitar Competitions. His recent seasons have taken him around the United States, including his solo debut with the Atlanta Symphony, a major tour of Australia and New Zealand, and debuts and reappearances in China, Japan, the Philippines, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, the U.K., Italy, Czech Republic, Greece, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Leisner is in Fayetteville to perform with SoNA, the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Walton Arts Center. He will perform on SoNA's Masterworks III concert called The Romantic. Selections for the concert include Schumann's Symphony No. 1, Spring, Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez-featuring Leisner as solo guitarist, and a world premiere of Leisner's Pranayama. Tickets are available at the Walton Arts Center website.
