Victoria Maloch and Antonio Igbokidi Given Henry Woods Student Leadership Award

The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to announce Victoria Maloch and Antonio Igbokidi as the 2017 Henry Woods Student Leadership Award recipients. This award recognizes two outstanding student leaders, one female and one male, for their contributions to the campus community. 

Maloch and Igbokidi will be honored at 1 p.m. today, Friday, April 28, in room 504 of the Arkansas Union. Introductions and remarks will be made by Dean of Students Melissa Harwood-Rom, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Charles Robinson, as well as the award recipients. Refreshments will be served.

Victoria Maloch will graduate with a major in agricultural business with a concentration in pre-law; she will also receive a double minor in agricultural communications and agricultural leadership.

Some of Maloch's campus activities and recognitions include:

• National Secretary for Collegiate FFA National Secretary and travelled over 100,000 national and international miles representing over 600,000 FFA members
• Bumpers College Honors Mentor and Leader
• Volunteer Action Center Literacy Program Mentor and Razorback Food Recovery Leader and has volunteered 579 university related hours
• Chi Omega Women's Fraternity and Student Alumni Board member
• 2016 Harry S. Truman Scholar
• Homecoming Court member
• Student Alumni Association Senior of Significance recipient

After graduation Maloch will participate in the Truman Scholar Summer Institute program working in the Office of Legislative and Public Affairs for USDA Rural Development. Afterward, she will begin a yearlong Truman-Albright Fellowship in the Office of Rural Health and Human Services at HHS.

Antonio Igbokidi will graduate with a major in biology and a minor in African American studies.

• District Oratorical Champion for Alpha Phi Alpha, Regional Quiz Bowl Champion, and National Quiz Bowl Runner Up

After graduation Igbokidi hopes to attend medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. It has been his dream to become a physician and to help mitigate undeserved areas in the state of Arkansas and to inspire minorities to participate in STEM in higher education. He wants to specialize in Developmental Pediatrics because of the importance of giving opportunities to all children, especially those who are underrepresented.

The Henry Woods Student Leadership Award was established in 2000 in honor of Henry Woods, a 1973 graduate from the University of Arkansas. His friends and associates created this award in recognition of Woods and his 25 years of service in Washington, D.C. While in Washington, Woods worked for U.S. Rep. Bill Alexander and U.S. Sens. Dale Bumpers, Blanche Lincoln and David Pryor.
