Jeff Shannon to Present Shadow Patterns at Two Arkansas Events

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jeff Shannon, professor of architecture at the University of Arkansas, will discuss and sign his new edited collection Shadow Patterns: Reflections on Fay Jones and His Architecture at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock and at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the Fayetteville Public Library.  

The Arts Center event is jointly sponsored by the Architecture and Design Network. The library event is part of the Fayetteville Public Library’s University of Arkansas Press Spotlight series.

Both events are free and open to the public and will include refreshments.

Shadow Patterns, published by the UA Press, is a collection of critical essays and personal accounts of the man the American Institute of Architects honored with its highest award, the Gold Medal, in 1990. The essays range from the academic, with appreciations and observations by Juhani Pallasmaa, Robert McCarter and Ethel Goodstein-Murphree, to personal reflections by clients and friends. Two of Arkansas’ most accomplished writers, Roy Reed and Ellen Gilchrist, provide intimate portrayals of what it’s like to live in a Fay Jones house.

The book is the latest in the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design and University of Arkansas Press collaborative series, which publishes projects that document and celebrate creative achievements in various forms of environmental design, design preservation, and design history.

Shannon is professor of architecture and former dean of the Fay Jones School. He has twice been named by DesignIntelligence as a Most Admired Educator, and he has devoted most of his career to practicing and teaching architecture in his native Arkansas.
