Faculty and Students at IISE Conference in Pittsburgh

The Industrial Engineering Department and the U of A were well represented at the recent annual conference of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) in Pittsburgh.

During the conference, Ashlea Bennett Milburn was recognized with the IISE Transactions on Healthcare Systems Engineering Award. This award recognizes outstanding research papers published in IISE Transactions on Healthcare Systems Engineering. Milburn and recent doctoral alum Mehmet Sedar Kilinc of Oregon State University received the award for their paper "A Study of Home Telehealth Diffusion among US Home Healthcare Agencies using System Dynamics."

Recent doctoral alum Jenn Pazour, professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, was the recipient of the Dr. Hamed K. Eldin Outstanding Early Career IE in Academia Award.

Other awards included:

  • Senior Justin Taylor received the CISE Scholarship;
  • Senior Rachel Holmer received the UPS Scholarship for Minority Students;
  • Doctoral student Liliana Delgado Hildalgo received the E.J. Sierleja Memorial Fellowship;
  • Senior Grace McGee was recipient of the Harold & Inge Marcus Scholarship;
  • Senior Anthony Woods received the Council of Fellows IISE Scholarship and the SHS Scholarship;
  • Senior Emily Matlock was recipient of the John L. Imhoff Scholarship.

Additionally, the Northwest Arkansas Professional Chapter of IISE was recipient of the Bronze Award.

The conference, organized by the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers, is composed of two types of sessions: Applied Solutions, showcasing proven solutions and applications from industry; and the Industrial & Systems Engineering Research Conference (ISERC), featuring research from academia and industry scholars. The ISERC is also a forum for exchanging knowledge and discoveries in the industrial and systems engineering research community featuring industry exhibits, workshops and student poster sessions.
