Long-time Carpenter with Facilities Management Passes Away

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jerry Ramey, of Winslow, a Carpenter Shop foreman at Facilities Management, passed away Monday, July 3, at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was 61. He had a 41-year career at the University of Arkansas, where he helped people all over campus solve their daily problems. He made countless friends and thought of the campus community and his co-workers as family. When he was away from campus, he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandkids.

Ramey started his career at the U of A as a groundskeeper in 1976. He applied for and received an apprenticeship position in the Carpenter Shop in 1978. He was promoted to a supervisor position in the Carpenter Shop in 1995, and since 1998 he held the position of foreman of the Carpenter Shop.

He was born Dec. 5, 1955 in Prairie Grove, the son of Phineus Marion and Tressa (Easley) Ramey. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Marcia Smith Ramey.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning, July 8, and were followed by a gathering of friends and loved ones at the Pavilion in the Gardens.
