Bid Day Will Be Broadcast Live This Saturday at 10 a.m.

Panhellenic Bid Day will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, in the Chi Omega Greek Theatre, and will broadcast live on UATV.

"Bid Day at the University of Arkansas is an incredible experience. It is a day where both past and present members of our sororities get to welcome new women to their organization," said Danica Ridgeway, president of Panhellenic Council. "This day is full of fun activities, and new traditions. It is the start of a life long sisterhood. We will have thousands of people joining in the festivities at the Chi Omega Greek Theater and it is a proud tradition for our Panhellenic women! "

Bid Day will be broadcast live by UATV and the production company AVAD3 and simulcast into Hillside Auditorium as an alternative viewing location.

This live stream gives alumni and friends from across the world a chance to view this amazing campus tradition as it happens. The event will also be recorded and posted online for later viewing.

"This will give our new members the opportunity to view this incredible experience over and over in the years to come, " said Parice Bowser, director of Greek Life. 

The ceremony will be broadcast live on UATV's Cox Cable Channel 214 in Northwest Arkansas and on the UATV website.

The most important aspect of Bid Day is the new members opening their envelopes revealing the chapter that has extended them a membership bid. After that each chapter leads their new members back to the chapter house or other set locations to welcome them into sisterhood.

During this process, University of Arkansas students can find comfort in the Greek Life community. More than 1700 women, a record number, are scheduled to participate in sorority recruitment, which culminates in the Bid Day Ceremony.

National Panhellenic Conference, one of the largest organizations advocating for women, is the umbrella group for 26 national and international sororities.

If the weather turns stormy the event will be moved into the Arkansas Union where bids will be distributed to potential new members within their small groups, and the live broadcast will be unavailable due to logistics.
