Health Center Welcomes New Gynecologist to Women's Clinic

Pat Walker Health Center is pleased to welcome Dr. Kathleen Paulson as the Women's Clinic new gynecologist.

A board-certified gynecologist and fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Paulson earned her Doctor of Medicine at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, and then completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University of Missouri-Columbia.

"We are proud to welcome Dr. Paulson to our medical staff and the University of Arkansas family. Her knowledge and expertise will help provide our patients with the best care possible," said Mary Alice Serafini, associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs and executive director of the health center. "Access to quality women's health care is a priority for the Pat Walker Health Center and our campus community."

Prior to accepting her new role at the health center, Paulson was in private practice in Fayetteville for almost two decades. She has worked to improve contraceptive education in the state and is passionate about decreasing the rate of unplanned pregnancies among young women.

Before attending medical school, Paulson taught Spanish, German and English as a second language, while traveling extensively. She majored in Spanish and German and completed her medical school pre-requisites at the U of A here in her hometown of Fayetteville.

"Our team of providers in the Women's Clinic at Pat Walker is excellent," said Paulson. "I have the best job in the state. I love teaching, I love women's health care and I love working with the students, faculty and staff of my alma mater."

Paulson has deep roots at the U of A and in Fayetteville. Her mother, Gen Broyles worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Washington Regional Medical Center. Her father, James T. Whitehead co-founded the Creative Writing Program at the U of A. Paulson's step-father is also the late Frank Broyles, iconic football coach and athletic director.

"I am grateful to have been able to start my medical career where my mother worked, and I'll end my career where my father worked," said Paulson. "I'm a Razorback through and through."
