Muslims for Life Nationwide Blood Drive on Sept. 11

The Al-Islam Students Association will sponsor its annual Sept. 11 Memorial Muslims for Life Blood Drive along with a memorial peace observance of the anniversary of Sept. 11 and a relief program for those people affected by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey in the Houston region.

The memorial peace observance will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at the Fulbright Peace Fountain between Old Main and Vol Walker Hall with blessings from Hameed Naseem. Speakers include Chancellor Joe Steinmetz, Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan and Angela Oxford of the university's Volunteer Action Center. The ceremony will conclude with a moment of silence.

The blood drive will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11-12, at the same location with a Bloodmobile provided by the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks. To reserve an appointment time to give blood, RSVP to Naseer Naseem at nwnaseem@uark.edu or 479-249-5230.

Al-Islam Students Association is a registered student organization. Through the efforts of the campus community, the Muslims for Life campaign has raised more than 1,000 pints of blood over the course of this annual blood drive at the university. By the gift of life through the donation of blood, the campus community brings together peoples of different faiths, creeds and nationalities uniting as a community to give back to our community in recognition of the lives lost on this fateful day.
