Figueroa to Speak at Physics Colloquium Today

The Physics Department colloquium, titled "Building a quantum network of room temperature quantum devices," will be given by Eden Figueroa, a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Stony Brook University, New York. It will begin with refreshments at 3:30 pm in PHYS 134, and the colloquium will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, in PHYS 133.
"Progressing quantum technologies to room temperature operation is key to unlock the potential and economomic viability of multi-device architectures. In this talk we will report our progress towards building a prototypical quantum networ, containing several quantum memories and gates, capable of distributing entanglement over long distances," said Figueroa.
In his talk, he will be showing how to produce photonic quanturm entranglement and how to store it and distribute it by optically manipulating the properties of room temperature atomic clouds. He will discuss his recent experiments in which several quantum devices are already interconnected forming an elementary quantum cryptographic network.
Lastly, he will show the progress toward building an efficient photon-photon interaction at room temperature. He will present his recent quantum characterization of few-photon-level light fields exhibiting large cross-phase modulation via a double-lambda system in an atomic vapor.
