Environmental and Agricultural Sustainability Field Trip Scheduled for Sept. 26

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas high school students will have an opportunity to learn about invasive plants, erosion control, water quality monitoring and more during an upcoming field trip to the University of Arkansas Fayetteville campus.

The university's Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences will conduct the Environmental and Agricultural Sustainability Field Trip on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The event is intended for high school juniors and seniors, and will take place at the department's Agricultural Park, beginning at the Agri Park Pavilion, located at 1167 W. Knapp St. in Fayetteville.

Attendees will have the option of taking two tours, each of which will offer visits to six areas of research.

Holly Yeatman, recruiting coordinator for the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences, said the annual program has proven a favorite with area teachers in years past.

"The CSES Environmental and Agricultural Sustainability Field Trip is popular with teachers because their students get first-hand experience related to the concepts they are studying in their science classes," Yeatman said.

Yeatman said students are advised to bring water bottles and sturdy shoes appropriate for traversing agricultural fields. Students are also welcome to bring their own lunch.
