The second annual Arkansas Drone/Unmanned Aircraft Systems Summit will be held this Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the University of Arkansas campus in the Reynolds Center Auditorium. At this exciting event, you can learn about current drone platforms and even see what it is like to fly a drone at a Razorback football game. Subject matter experts will cover topics such as FAA UAS compliance, cybersecurity, research, and current projects.

Originally used in military applications, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or drones have become useful tools in commercial operations, research, recreational, agricultural, and law enforcement applications. Richard Ham, Ed.D., Assistant Director of the Master in Science of Operations Management and Engineering Management programs, facilitates the University of Arkansas's UAS efforts. Jim Rankin, Ph.D., Vice Provost for Research and Innovation sponsors the annual event to bring together state resources to improve research efforts and economic opportunities in Arkansas.

"As the State's land-grant university, we are chartered to serve the citizens of Arkansas and improve their lives," said Ham. "We teach these topics in more detail in our foundations and remote sensing courses and new courses are emerging around the state.   There are not many events in the nation where you can find cutting-edge information presented by recognized experts in academe, agriculture, law enforcement, aviation, and industry."

"I recommend this summit for anyone, from novice to expert, who is interested in this technology," said Rankin. "Dr. Ham is a leading expert in the use and regulation of Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and this event presents a unique opportunity to learn about the latest developments in this field."

To attend the event either in person or via live streaming, please register at this link.  Space is limited in the auditorium and through the live stream, so advanced registration is required. Once you register, an email with event details will be sent the week of the event.
