World-Renowned Quintet to Be Artists-in-Residence and Perform With Razorback Band

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Boston Brass, a world-renowned quintet, will be artists-in-residence in the University of Arkansas Department of Music from Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 16-18. The quintet will host a series of masterclasses and recitals, culminating in a performance with the Razorback Marching Band at halftime of the football game against Mississippi State University.

For 31 years, Boston Brass has set out to establish a one-of-a-kind musical experience. Performing exciting classical arrangements to burning jazz standards, Boston Brass treats audiences to a unique brand of musical entertainment.

"We are excited to welcome Boston Brass to Fayetteville" said Benjamin Lorenzo, associate director of bands. "Our students will have the opportunity to engage and perform with world-class music artists and educators."

The ensemble has performed in 49 states and 30 countries and has conducted master classes around the world including sessions and residencies at the Eastman School of Music, The Julliard School, Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, Peabody Conservatory of Music, Royal Academy of Music in London, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, and Mahidol University in Bangkok.

The public is invited to a recital on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center. Ticket prices for the recital are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors, students with ID, and university faculty and staff. Boston Brass' residency is sponsored by the Razorback Marching Band, the Department of Music, and Yamaha.

About the University of Arkansas Bands: The University of Arkansas Bands Program, inside the Department of Music in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, began in 1874 and is one of the oldest band programs in the country. The program has six ensembles including the Razorback Marching Band, Hogwild Band, and four concert bands with over 400 student members representing every college at the university.
