University Recreation to Host Special Olympics Unified Rivalry Series
2015 Special Olympics Unified Rivalry Series at Arkansas.
The University Recreation Intramural Sports program is hosting the Special Olympics Unified Rivalry Series against the University of Missouri on Sunday, November 12 at 2 p.m. at the UREC Sports Complex located on Mitchell Street.
Teams are comprised of students from the University of Arkansas and the University of Missouri, as well as local Special Olympics athletes.
"I am excited and humbled to be playing this game," said Spencer Roy, Special Olympics Arkansas athlete.
Arkansas coach Nikk Foster has been helping them train for weeks to prepare for game day.
"I am excited to watch all of their hard work pay off," said Foster. "But, most importantly, I want my athletes to remember to have fun."
Special Olympics has a long history in playing unified at the college level. Across the nation, there are over 200 Special Olympics College Clubs that play Unified Sports to build inclusion on campus.
This will be the third Unified Rivalry match between the University of Arkansas and the University of Missouri. The inaugural event was held in Arkansas and met with over one hundred student athletes from the University of Arkansas cheering on the two teams.
The event is open to the public and free to attend.
