A scene from winter past.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – When weather effects operations at the University of Arkansas the first alerts are sent by text, email and phone to everyone in the campus community who signs up to receive them.

These are the first messages sent and the fastest way for you to find out if classes are cancelled or delayed and offices are closed or opening late.

To receive those campus weather alerts, you must opt into the system and provide your contact information and delivery preferences. You also have to give the system permission to send an alert through text message.

The text message is fastest — you’ll get the word before social media or the news media — which is a good reason to sign up.

Students can opt in through their UAConnect accounts. Faculty and staff can sign up through webBASIS. Both UAConnect and webBASIS can be reached either directly or through the U of A’s safety website. Opting in only takes a minute.

The U of A also posts inclement weather information on its social media channels, its homepage, updates the Weather Information Hotline at 479-575-7000, and posts a recorded message on the U of A switchboard, 479-575-2000.
