David Wilson Joins Transit and Parking Department

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – David Wilson of Springdale joined the University of Arkansas Transit and Parking Department as communications director on Dec. 11.

His duties include writing for the department in various forms of media and developing information campaigns to inform the community of the services provided by the department. In addition, he will prepare press releases, will be the transit and parking point of contact for the media, will develop and conduct training for departmental parking representatives, and will work with the overall university communications effort.

Transit and Parking Director Gary Smith said he was glad to welcome Wilson to the parking and transit effort.

"We are excited to have David join the team," he said. "His experience and abilities will be a great asset in helping improve our communications efforts with our customers."

Before moving to Northwest Arkansas in July of 2016, Wilson worked for 27 years as an educator in Missouri. He was a teacher of social studies and journalism for 12 of those years and was a high school principal for 15.

His most recent position was associate principal at Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, Mo. In that role he took the lead in providing staff and community communications, and produced an education-related column that appeared each Sunday in the Jefferson City News Tribune.

He has written for 20 different publications and most recently published a book called Learning Every Day. The book is based largely on his columns about life and education.

Wilson grew up in Northeast Arkansas before working in Missouri.

He has three children who have all attended college (David II, Jared, and Rachel); two of them have gone to the University of Arkansas.

He has degrees in journalism, social studies, and educational administration. In addition, he completed doctoral work in educational leadership at the University of Missouri in Columbia in 2010.

"I'm glad to be here," Wilson said.  "I see our job in transit and parking as not just dealing with transportation issues, but as helping UA students, employees, and guests go about their business on campus as conveniently as possible."
