2018 U of A Medieval England Study Abroad Program
Want to study in England? Love the Middle Ages? Want 6-hours of U of A course credit towards your English or history or humanities or Medieval and Renaissance studies requirements? Want to escape the summer heat? It's not too late to apply!
University of Arkansas students can study all things medieval in England during the 2018 summer session 2, July 2 through Aug. 3. William Quinn, distinguished professor of English in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences' Department of English, will lead the program.
This faculty-led program offers an intensive, interdisciplinary study of the history, literature, and material culture of the Anglo-Saxon, Anglo-Norman and Middle English periods — ca. 500 c.e. to 1500 c.e. The program begins with informal lectures and seminar discussions at Durham University, accompanied by numerous field trips. The group will then relocate briefly to York, then to London for several historical site visits (Canterbury, Dover, Hastings, etc.). The six hours credit earned by this program may also be counted toward a minor in Medieval and Renaissance studies, which is an excellent complementary program for all majors in English, history, classical studies, and world languages, indeed by all majors in the humanities. It is also now possible to attain the MRST minor entirely by course-work completed while studying abroad in the summers.
There will be an informational meeting about the program at 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, in Old Main 319. Quinn will answer all questions about course work, site visits and accommodations.

The deadline to apply for the 2018 Medieval England program is Feb. 1, and scholarships are available for U of A students.
