University Recreation to Offer Caribbean Sailing, Service and Leadership Adventure
Broadreach Global Educational Adventure

For the first time in program history, UREC Outdoors will offer a sailing, service and leadership trip to the tropical islands of the Caribbean. UREC Outdoors is collaborating with Broadreach Global Educational Adventures to offer this exclusive sailing experience during May 14-24. The cost to attend is $3,400 for University of Arkansas students and $3,550 for UREC members. Those interested must submit a $1,000 deposit to secure registration by Feb. 8.

Participants will explore the islands of St. Martin, St. Barth's, Statia, and Saba, snorkel diverse reef systems, earn two International Yacht Training (IYT) certifications, assist with service projects on various islands, and experience leadership development on a 45-foot, live-aboard catamaran for the duration of the program.

"The Caribbean trip is a unique opportunity to blend leadership and personal development, learn new skills, experience the Caribbean vibe, and do it all while living on a sailboat," said Mike Hoover, assistant director for UREC Outdoors.

Hoover has worked for Broadreach as an instructor on their sailing and leadership expeditions, and he will accompany the participants on this excursion.

Program costs include transportation while on the trip, lodging and accommodations, food (three meals per day and snacks), entrance fees, outdoor equipment from UREC Outdoors, some equipment during excursion (e.g. snorkel and sailing equipment), professional guide services, fully equipped catamaran sailboat, two IYT sailing certifications, and 11 days in the Caribbean breeze.
