U of A Study Abroad Director Elected to Fulbright Association Board of Directors

DeDe Long

DeDe Long, director of the Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the Fulbright Association. Her three-year term took effect Jan. 1.

Long's service in international education at the University of Arkansas spans more than 35 years. Additionally, she has held leadership positions in many professional associations associated with international education, including vice president for Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars; member of the Board of Directors and vice president for public policy and practice for NAFSA: Association of International Educators; member of the Board of Directors for the University Studies Abroad Consortium; and advisory board member to several study abroad organizations. Long currently serves as the chapter president for the Arkansas Fulbright Association.   

"Election to this board indicates respect for both DeDe and the University of Arkansas and support for the Fulbright Program and Senator Fulbright's legacy," said Curt Rom, associate dean for International Education. "Her leadership in this international organization will be beneficial to the entire state of Arkansas, as it expands our reputation and our commitment to the worldwide Fulbright alumni network." 

In 2012, Long received the Advocate of the Year Award from NAFSA and in 2016 she was awarded the University of Arkansas' first Hoyt Purvis Award for Service to International Education. She received a Fulbright International Education Administrators grant to Germany in 2006 and has served as the University of Arkansas campus adviser for the Fulbright Program and the Boren Awards for more than two decades.
