Braylin Miesner Selected as March's Student Leader of the Month

Braylin Miesner

Senior Braylin Miesner has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for March. Originally from Charleston, Arkansas, Hailey came to the University of Arkansas to major in public health. She is involved with STAR Center/RESPECT, a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, and the Catholic Campus Ministry. Braylin has stated that a large reason she became so involved within her sorority was because she grew up with all boys so she wanted the sisterly bond with other young women. She has had a passion for Take Back the Night since her sophomore year and loves to give back.

When asked what she thought a leader's most important qualities were, Braylin said, "I believe the most important qualities for a leader are commitment/passion, good communication and empathy." Braylin also identified her uncle, Jonas Schaffer, as a mentor and role model. Schaffer is a 2005 graduate and "pursues everything with great poise and dignity."

Braylin's advice to other leaders is to "take time to yourself." She stated, "Not to bite off more than you can chew! Personally, that is something I am still working on myself and having to remind myself of that daily! I have always had such a leader role in my life (being the oldest sibling) and I have a tendency to feel like I need to say yes to everything but that's not always the case! I always try to remind myself, quality over quantity." Her favorite quote is from Bob Goff: "We won't be distracted by comparison if we are captivated with purpose."

The Student Leader of the Month award, sponsored by New Student & Family Programs, recognizes University of Arkansas undergraduate students for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities, or through volunteer and community service.  More information about the award can be found here.
