Higher Education Program Co-Sponsors Speaker With International Focus

Christina Yao, an assistant professor of educational administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will give three presentations next week on the University of Arkansas campus. Yao said she draws on her perspectives as a woman of color and child of immigrants in her scholarship of social justice and global learning.

Yao will speak from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 9, in Room 403 of the Arkansas Union. Her talk, "How to Support International Students in the U.S.," is a Division of Student Affairs: Professional Development Seminar Brownbag. The talk is free and open to the public.

The higher education program in the College of Education and Health Professions is sponsoring two additional public appearances by Yao. They are from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 9, in Room 229 of the Graduate Education Building, "Careers in Student Affairs: Considerations for Maximizing Graduate School and the Job Search," and from 3:05 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in Room 146A of the Graduate Education Building, "International Students' Transitions and Success in U.S. Higher Education."

Students in the higher education graduate program will read oen of Yao's articles, "Sense of Belonging in International Students: Making the Case Against Integration to U.S. Institutions of Higher Education," prior to hearing her speak. It is also accessible by the public.

The Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education is also a co-sponsor of Yao's appearances. More information about Yao is available on her website.
