Turn Your Language Requirement into an Adventure

Most majors at the University of Arkansas require students to complete a specific amount of hours in a foreign language to fulfill graduation requirements, so why not turn your mandatory coursework into a rich, cultural experience?

The Department of World Languages offers courses in 11 different languages, with minors in Arabic, Chinese, French, German Japanese, and Spanish, and majors in French, German, Spanish, and Classical Studies.

At the graduate level the department offers an M.A. in Modern Languages for French and German; an M.A. in Spanish, and many of our faculty teach courses and direct dissertations within our multi-tracked Ph.D. in comparative literature and cultural studies.

Current students have said that our smaller class sizes make language learning easier and motivates them to interact with their professors during face-to-face instruction.

Learning a language can be a bit tough but to ease your jitters, we offer conversation clubs, language tables and tutorial services to make your experience meaningful and conducive to fit your needs and language abilities.

The Department also has an assortment of faculty-led study abroad programs that are used to further assist students in an immersive learning experience.

Studies have shown that studying abroad can impact the way in which individuals view the world and assist in developing a further appreciation for various cultures.

The Department recently hosted the 2018 Language Fair, where we accommodated over 400 students. Please take a moment to view the highlight video.
