ASG and SAA Honor the 2018 Most Outstanding Faculty Members

Professors Robert Stapp, Kristen Jozkowski, and Robert Maranto are the Associated Student Government and Student Alumni Association's 2018 Most Outstanding Faculty Members. The winners and all finalists were honored Wednesday, April 11, with a reception at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House.

Stapp is a professor in economics in the Walton College of Business and part of the Walton Honors Program. He teaches a specialty Japanese Economics course. Each year Stapp takes students to Japan for a study abroad program in which students are exposed to both Japanese business culture and everyday culture. It is the longest-standing Walton Study Abroad Program with this upcoming summer marking 20 years of the program. Stapp was nominated by Madeline Mays.

Jozkowski is an associate professor of public health in the College of Education and Health Professions, and she is affiliated faculty in gender studies and public policy at the University of Arkansas. She is the director of the Sexuality Education and Consent Studies Research Lab. She has taken student researchers in her lab to conferences such as the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, the American Public Health Association, and the International Academy of Sex Research. Jozkowski was nominated by Tiffany Marcantonio.

Robert Maranto, 21st Century Chair in Leadership at the Department of Education Reform, nominated by Dany Shakeel.

Maranto is the 21st Century Chair in Leadership at the Department of Education Reform at the University of Arkansas. He edits the Journal of School Choice, serves on Fayetteville School Board, and has produced 14 scholarly books. Previously, Maranto taught political science at Villanova and worked for the Clinton administration in the 1990s. Maranto was nominated by Dany Shakeel.

  • Mike Richardson of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences
  • Gary Ritter of the College of Education and Health Professions
  • Ro Di Brezzo of the College of Education and Health Professions

In February ASG released applications in which students could nominate their professors for this recognition. Students wrote open responses about their professors and those applications were judged by members of the Student Alumni Board and the ASG Executive Cabinet. Out of 44 nominations, 10 applicants were named as finalists and the three applications which scored the highest were then chosen as the 2018 Most Outstanding Faculty Members. ASG and SAA would like to thank all faculty members for their hard work and dedication to students.
