Yanbin Li

Distinguished Professor Yanbin Li of the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering was inducted as a Fellow of the Institute of Biological Engineering at its 2018 Annual Meeting in Norfolk, Virginia, April 7.

Li is a charter member of IBE and has made sustained contributions to its programs and publications since its inception in 1995. His graduate students have won awards in IBE competitions over the years. Li also has responsibilities in the Division of Agriculture Center of Excellence for Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas.

The IBE is a professional organization formed in 1995 that encourages inquiry and interest in biology-inspired engineering.

IBE supports the community of scientists, engineers and practitioners addressing problems through systematically organizing the understanding of structure and behavior of living systems and creating biology-inspired design solutions.  IBE promotes biological engineering in the broadest and most liberal manner through research, education and professional development

Li, who holds the Tyson Endowed Chair in Biosensing Engineering, was honored for his work advancing biosensing technology for rapid detection of pathogenic bacteria and virus, with novel concepts and design in research and applications for food safety engineering. He has taken the lead in the development of nanotechnology-based biosensors for in-field rapid detection of foodborne pathogens and avian influenza virus in collaboration with engineers and scientists.

He is presently leading a $2.3 million project on food safety in poultry supply chain in China.
