UA Chapter of National Spanish Honor Society Initiates Nine New Members

Spring 2018 Sigma Delta Pi inductees

The U of A's chapter of Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society held its spring semester induction ceremony on April 24. This semester, the university inducted nine students who have demonstrated excellence in learning Spanish as well as dedication to the study of Hispanic literatures and cultures. 

The spring 2018 Sigma Delta Pi inductees are: Samuel Filson, Emory Fullington, Abigail Maherg, Anapaula Rojas, Hilda Sánchez, Molly Tyler, Darci Walton, Devonshire Whyte, and Sarah Winstead. 

The induction ceremony was conducted by chapter president Grace Shike, chapter treasurer Afton Brickman, chapter secretary Emily Davidson, and faculty adviser Violeta Lorenzo Feliciano. After the reception, inductees as well as students from our campus community who are currently taking Spanish courses participated in the professional development event "So I got a degree in Spanish... now what?" with alumnae Emily Rodríguez and Abbigail Graupner. 

Sigma Delta Pi is an organization that provides networking, scholarship, and leadership opportunities to students that have demonstrated academic excellence in the study of Spanish and Hispanic literatures and cultures. The UA's chapter has won prestigious national prizes such as one of the 2016 Orden de los Descubridores award given to Kay Pritchett, professor emerita, and a 2017 Gabriela Mistral student award given to Andrew Bartels, alumnus, class of 2017.
