Honors College to Host 'Best in Show' Dog Competition

Dog lovers, we've got a treat for you — and treats for your dog. On Thursday, May 3, from 3-5 p.m. the Honors College will host "Best in Show," a golden opportunity to show off your pooch and indulge in all things canine.

You may enter your dog in the following categories:

  • Best Costume
  • Best Obstacle Course Run
  • Best Trick
  • Best Dog Toy Destroyer
  • Best Tug-of-War
  • Best "Dishwasher"

There will be popsicles, popcorn, a photo booth, dog treats and excellent prizes for the winning dogs. All on campus and in the community are invited to attend. If you plan to bring your dog or enter your dog into competition, you must register in advance; submissions will not be accepted on the day of the event. Please note that you are required to show proof of current vaccination records at the time of registration, per university policy. Only one dog per person, please.

Proud dog parents may also upload a photo of their dog when registering to enter the "Cutest Dog" competition, currently underway on the Honors College Facebook page. There you can find adorable photos of prime contenders like Mushu, Mazie, Dash, Rupert, and Bandido von Haus — with contestants like these, there will certainly be some stiff competition come showtime!

Campus canine enthusiasts are eager to enter their dogs in competition.

"From a young age Sancha has been a fierce competitor, exceling at licking the plate clean and finding the squeaker in every toy," said Katie Wilson, associate director for student success at the Honors College. She plans to enter Sancha, a French bulldog/lab mix, aged 10 months and weighing in at 22 pounds, in the Best "Dishwasher" and Best Dog Toy Destroyer categories.
