David Bruce, Deputy CIO, Accepts CIO Position at Cleveland State University

David Bruce, who has served as deputy chief information officer at the University of Arkansas since February 2016, will step down July 2 to become the associate vice president and chief information officer at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Bruce has been with the university for more than 20 years. He began as a part-time lab technician in the food science department in 1995 while still a high school student. Four years later, he joined IT Services full-time in 1999 and has held several positions, including director of networking and associate CIO.  

"It's hard to adequately express my gratitude to everyone at the University of Arkansas for the opportunities and wonderful memories throughout my career here. It is a wonderful place that will always be special to me and my family," Bruce said. "Serving as deputy CIO has been a privilege, and I'm proud of the incredible work the team has done to move the university forward."

As deputy CIO, Bruce oversaw the university's technology infrastructure, including the network, server environment, data center and more. During his tenure, he has initiated and managed several technology improvement projects, including Network Everywhere, when more than 1,000 new wireless access points were added to 40 buildings on campus.

"David has demonstrated his passion and energy for higher education through his exceptional leadership during his time here," said Chris McCoy, chief information officer for the university. "We are excited to see the fruits of his leadership continue to grow at Cleveland State."

In the interim period, all responsibilities will be managed by Clay Greninger, associate CIO for finance and administration.
