FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A Women’s Academic Leadership Workshop will be held at the University of Arkansas on Friday, June 8, hosted by the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards.

The workshop will address a range of topics related to academic leadership, publishing, economic development, and diversity and inclusion. Panelists include experts from American University, Baylor University, Duke University, Kansas State University and the University of Arkansas as well as community leaders from programs like Tin House Publishing, the Walton Family Foundation, the Walmart Foundation, and Welcome NWA.

“The topics concern women, but affect all, and all are invited,” said Suzanne McCray, director of the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards and workshop organizer. “The workshop will feature sessions that should be relevant to professionals in a variety of fields. The lineup is compelling. It should be an information-packed, interesting event.”

Keynote speakers for the event will be community leader Jane Gearhart and Stacy Leeds, the U of A interim vice chancellor for economic development.

“The Chancellor’s Commission on Women is pleased to support the event,” said Kim Needy, commission chair, interim vice provost for research and innovation and dean of the graduate school and international education. “The topics are timely, and the workshop will be interactive. Anyone in or aspiring to be in an academic leadership role will benefit.”

The workshop is scheduled to begin with a breakfast discussion at 9 a.m. in the E.J. Ball Courtroom at the U of A School of Law.

Co-sponsors include the Chancellor’s Commission on Women, the Department of English, and the Higher Education program in the College of Education and Health Professions. A schedule and registration information are available online.
