Occupational Therapy Director to Attend National Leadership Institute

Sherry Muir, director of the occupational therapy doctoral program offered jointly by the University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, has been accepted to attend the 2018-19 American Occupational Therapy Institute Academic Leadership Institute.

The institute begins with a two-day intensive workshop Aug. 9 and 10 in Alexandria, Virginia.

In addition to the two-day workshop, participants will complete seven monthly online modules and participate in monthly facilitated group mentoring sessions. At the end of the institute, the participants will receive certification and continuing education credit for 55 hours.

According to the American Occupational Therapy Institute, there is an acute shortage of qualified academic leaders for occupational therapy education programs, which has been exacerbated by unprecedented growth in new academic programs and retirements across the academic community.

Muir holds the rank of tenured associate professor. She is widely known for her work on occupational therapy in primary care. The first students will begin the new occupational therapy program in 2020.

Muir earned a Master of Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman's University in Dallas in 1991. She also holds a doctorate in public policy and administration from Walden University.
