Bumpers College Students Dahlem, Grubbs Earn Miss Arkansas Scholarships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Two students in the U of A's Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences won events and earned scholarships competing in this year's Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant.

Darynne Dahlem, a senior animal science major from Fort Smith, finished as the second runner-up and received a $9,000 scholarship. Dahlem tied for first in the Katie Bailey Overall Swimsuit and Sarah Slocum Overall Interview categories; and won the Julie Blackwood Smart Swimsuit and Jessie Ward Bennett Leadership awards, one of two Legacy Awards and was a preliminary swimsuit winner.

A former Miss University of Arkansas, Dahlem is the current Miss Northwest Arkansas. An honors student, she is a member of Bumpers College's Honors Student Board.

Reagan Grubbs, an incoming master's degree student, earned two awards and scholarships.

Grubbs will be working on her master's degree in agricultural and extension education in Bumpers College's Department of Agricultural Education, Communications and Technology.

Competing as Miss Southern Arkansas University, Grubbs won the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Foundation Spirit of the Pageant Award, and the Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit award totaling $1,500 in scholarships.

Other University of Arkansas students and alumni who won awards included:

• Miss Lights of the Delta Alexis Ungerank, an honors student from Mountain Home studying management, and Miss Metro Bethany Kasper, a junior from Jacksonville studying theatre, were awarded $1,500 scholarships as top 15 finishers for Miss Arkansas.
• Miss Arkansas River Raegan Snell, a junior from Jonesboro studying journalism, won a $1,000 scholarship as part of the Bringing Beauty to Life Awards.
• Miss Dogwood Bethany Miller, a senior from Fayetteville studying health, human performance and recreation, won the $1,000 People's Choice Award.
• Miss University of Arkansas Ashton Yarbrough, a senior from Gravette studying elementary education, won the Bobbie Horton Elementary Education Award, a $1,000 scholarship.
