New Wi-Fi Login Portal Announced as Part of Achieve IT Project
Matt Reynolds, University Relations

The Achieve IT: Network Foundations project will get underway later this month with the implementation of a new Wi-Fi management system called ClearPass from Aruba Networks.

ClearPass will simplify the Wi-Fi login process, making it easier for students, faculty and staff to easily and securely connect any device from any location on campus. Guests will also have an improved experience with extended time limits and full internet access. As a reminder, those with UARK accounts should always connect to UARK Wi-Fi and not Guest Wi-Fi.

ClearPass also provides new options for connecting smart devices, such as Apple TV, Xbox, Roku and other Internet of Things (IoT) devices, through a new self-service portal.

"The selection of ClearPass is a reflection of our campus community's demand for reliable mobile services, especially among our increasingly tech-savvy students who view mobile as no longer a benefit but an expectation," Elon Turner, director of infrastructure systems, said.  "In the fall, we'll see multiple devices move in with each student from laptops and Apple TVs to PlayStations and Echos."

The UARK Wi-Fi network will remain available throughout the implementation, and devices already connected to UARK Wi-Fi should remain connected following the change. Some users might be required to accept a security certificate request.

If a device will not connect to UARK Wi-Fi, the IT Help Desk recommends the user access the advanced Wi-Fi settings for their device, "Forget" the UARK Wi-Fi network, and then reconnect. For further assistance, contact the IT Help Desk.
