Faculty and Staff: Say Goodbye to Long-Distance Calling Codes

Long-distance calling codes are no longer necessary from campus phones.

IT Services is pleased to announce that long-distance calling codes are no longer necessary for faculty and staff. This change is one of many improvements being made as part of the Achieve IT: Unified Collaboration project. 

Effective Wednesday, July 18, faculty and staff can dial long-distance from campus telephones without using a long-distance authorization code. Calls outside of the Fayetteville area can be placed as normal. Press 9 for an outside line, and then dial 1 and the long-distance number. 

"Calling codes have long been a barrier to faculty and staff efficiently performing their jobs. We're excited to bring this barrier down as part of the Unified Collaboration project," said Clay Greninger, senior director of finance and administration for IT Services, said. 

Over the coming months, the Unified Collaboration project will deliver a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution to replace the legacy analog phone system. The current phone system has been in place for more than 20 years. It is increasingly expensive to maintain and lacks features desired by our campus community. The new solution will combine traditional voice calling with video, web conferencing, messaging and more.

Per the University Policies and Procedures 406.0, university services are restricted to official, work-related purposes.
