Honors students who plan to study abroad in 2019 are invited to apply for the Honors College Study Abroad Grant. Each year, the Honors College awards hundreds of honors students funding to support an intersession, summer, semester, or year-long study abroad program.

"Studying abroad is a tremendous opportunity, and the Honors College is eager to support students pursuing an international experience," said Jennie Popp, Associate Dean of the Honors College.

Students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and have completed 6 hours of honors credit on campus to be eligible to apply. An exception is made to the credit hour rule for first-semester freshmen and transfer students, as long as they take at least three honors hours their first semester and six honors hours by the end of their first year.

"We award a great deal of funding," said Popp, "but the funding gets increasingly competitive each year, as more and more students apply. We encourage students to carefully read the grant website and attend one of the grant workshops so they can be prepared to submit a quality application."

The Honors College has scheduled two grant workshops to help students learn about the application process and how to be competitive: Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 3 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m., both in the Gearhart Hall Second Floor Honors Lounge. Interested students can RSVP for a workshop here.

Students should pay close attention to the deadline for their specific program choice:

  • For programs in January intersession 2019 or spring 2019, the grant deadline is Sept. 21.
  • For programs in summer 2019, there are multiple deadlines: Oct. 1, Nov. 1, Dec. 1, or Feb. 1, 2019. However, students should apply at the earliest deadline possible, as funding is highly competitive and limited funds will be available for summer programs by the February deadline.
  • For programs in fall 2019 or academic year 2019-20, the grant deadline is Feb. 1, 2019.

For more information and to access the online grant application form please visit the Study Abroad Grant page on the Honors College website.

The Honors College also has additional funding for programs through the School for International Training. Students can be awarded up to $1,500 for summer programs or up to $3,500 for semester programs, in addition to the Honors College Study Abroad Grant.
