Network Foundations Project to Upgrade Campus Network
This fall, the university welcomed more than 27,000 students to the University of Arkansas. On average, each student brought with them five wireless devices. In fact, during the first week of classes, the campus averaged 20,000 to 30,000 wireless authentications per hour.
With a renewed focus on mobility, the wireless network is adapting to meet the needs of students, faculty and staff on campus. For years, upgrades and expansions have occurred in silos resulting in discrepancies in both experience and quality. In fact, on campus today there is still network equipment in use from 2002 — well beyond the intended lifecycle.
To help meet the growing demand for a reliable and stable Wi-Fi system, each aspect of the wired and wireless network will be replaced as part of the Achieve IT: Network Foundations project. This project, which is now underway, will modernize the entire campus network delivering increased reliability and mobility.
