Prize Winning Peruvian Author to Give Talk on Representing Violence

In contribution to the Hispanic Heritage month, Erika Almenara of the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures invites you to attend Peruvian writer Alonso Cueto's talk, "The Blue Hour and the Course of Violence in Peru." The talk explores Peruvian literature related to the violence between the state and the Shining Path as well as its connection to Peru's history.

The talk, followed by questions and answers with Cueto, will take place at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Giffels Auditorium Room 201. Reception to follow.

Alonso Cueto is a Peruvian novelist and playwright. He holds a doctorate from the University of Texas-Austin in Iberian and Latin American Languages and Cultures. Cueto has won several international prizes for his literary work, a scholarship for writers from the Guggenheim Foundation, and the prestigious Premio Herralde de Novela. Cueto's writing has been translated into 16 languages, including Chinese and Korean and three of his novels, Grandes miradas, The Blue Hour, and La pasajera were adapted for the screen.
