Call for Presenters: Geographic Information Systems Day Open House
The University Libraries are pleased to host an Open House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in ARKU 504 in celebration of Geographic Information Systems Day, better known as GIS Day. This is an annual, internationally recognized event promoting geographic information systems technology and its applications.
Students, staff, and faculty are invited to attend and participate with a lightning talk, lecture, poster or hands-on demonstration. Register your interest in presenting or exhibiting by Wednesday, Oct. 17. An event organizer will follow up with you.
GIS links the "what" (information) to the "where" (location), making GIS one way to visualize and analyze data effectively. The Open House is an opportunity to communicate knowledge and learn how different disciplines use GIS and geospatial technologies in their research and beyond.
"Learning what others are doing with GIS can lead to collaborations within a department, and with other schools and colleges on campus. Students benefit from hearing about research and how GIS technology can shape their careers," said Ken McCown, head of the department of Landscape Architecture and event speaker in 2017.
Participants are encouraged to share GIS-related research, cartographic creations, insights into how geospatial technology impacts our daily lives, or real-world applications involving GIS.
