Community-Unity Picnic and Movie Night Cancelled Due to Weather

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – One of the events in this month’s “Celebrating Inclusion and Diversity in Arkansas” campaign is being canceled because of expected severe weather. The Community-Unity Picnic and Movie Night was scheduled for Friday evening, Sept. 21, at the Chi Omega Greek Theatre, but the weather forecast calls for thunder and lightning storms with heavy rain.

“Many people put a lot of planning and effort into preparing this event and I truly appreciate their hard work,” said Yvette Murphy-Erby, vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion, who led the inclusion celebration campaign. “I hate to have to cancel this event, but obviously everyone’s safety is our prime concern. There are no alternate dates available this fall for the picnic – but I hope we can ultimately reschedule it for this spring, or possibly to kick-off next year’s celebration.”

The month long celebration was organized by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance, the Office for Faculty Development, and the Title IX Office, with contributions by volunteers from units across the U of A campus.
