OEOC Hosts Information Sessions for National Disability Employment Awareness Month

The Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance invites the campus community to attend the following sessions to raise awareness for the National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

Disability Etiquette/Sensitivity Informational Session: 10-11:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 1, University House 

The Disability Etiquette/Sensitivity Informational Session is designed to provide education and resources to participants, assisting them with the tools to better integrate individuals with disabilities into the workforce through proper etiquette using people first language.

Presenter: Ashley Johnson Cross, corporate business engagement manager for the Arkansas Rehabilitation Services Division.

Assistive Technology and Accommodations in the Workplace (2 sessions): 9-10:30 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, University House 

The presentation will cover programs in Arkansas that can assist employees with accommodations in the workplace. We will also cover the accommodation process and go through case studies displaying how specific accommodations implemented in specific situations can reduce or eliminate barriers to employment and promote successful outcomes not only for the employee but also for the employer. Resources will also be provided.

A 30-minute interactive demonstration of equipment will follow each presentation.

Presenters: Nathan Winter, associate commissioner of access and accommodations within Arkansas Rehabilitation Services; Brad Marsh, rehabilitation program coordinator, Arkansas Rehabilitation Services.

After all the session presentations, Toya Williams, compliance officer from the Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance, will be explaining the University of Arkansas’s Reasonable Accommodation Process.
