FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Chancellor Joe Steinmetz will give an update on the past year’s achievements and future goals of the University of Arkansas during his annual State of the University address. The chancellor will speak at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center. The event is open to the campus and the public.

A livestream, and later a recorded version of his talk will also be available at the University of Arkansas YouTube channel.

The State of the University address is the keynote event in One University Week, which also includes Provost Jim Coleman’s fall academic update, the U of A’s vision and mission update, and a presentation on the U of A’s unifying messaging themes.

This will be the chancellor’s second State of the University address, and he will speak to the U of A’s uniqueness, his vision for a thriving future for the university and plans for achieving those goals. He will emphasize the university’s continuing investment in faculty and staff, student success and research, all with the goal of strengthening Arkansas and improving the lives of Arkansans.

Chancellor Steinmetz intends to share plans to cut administrative costs and pass the savings on to student and faculty support.

He will also introduce two concepts that will be central to growth of the U of A’s collaborative environment. He will discuss the value of interdependency — the collaboration, cooperation and alignment of different units, working together to find common solutions and his charge for campus to develop a culture of “yes.”

“I believe this is a great place to be right now. I know one thing for certain, there is absolutely no other place like the U of A and no other place that I would like to be,” Steinmetz said.

The chancellor will answer questions after the address.
