Stolfi Retiring as Controller After 50 Years of Service at the U of A

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Larrie Stolfi, who began his career at the University of Arkansas as an accountant on Aug., 1968 and was named Controller in July, 1987, is retiring from his position, effective Jan. 2, 2019.

Mark Hubbell was named the new Controller starting July 23, 2018, and is currently working with Stolfi during a transitional period.

As Controller, Stolfi has been responsible for maintaining the university’s general ledger, overseeing budgetary control procedures, general review of accounting transactions and supervising the overall Controller’s Office staff. He has also been responsible for the preparation of a wide range of financial reports, such as the University’s Annual Financial Report, quarterly reports to the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees and the finance portion of the university’s annual Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) submission.

“Larrie’s long-time service to the University has been invaluable,” said Michael White, associate vice chancellor for financial affairs. “He has served as a mentor and friend to me and countless others working in Financial Affairs and the university campus in general. His experience and general institutional knowledge will be greatly missed.”

Stolfi is a U of A alumnus, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

“I’ve enjoyed my time at the university,” Stolfi said. “I’ve had a lot of great bosses, and worked with so many wonderful people over the years. The job has grown and changed in that time, and I’ve seen the office move from #2 pencils and Olivetti adding machines to ever more sophisticated computer systems – but it’s the people who really made the difference.”

Hubbell is a certified public accountant and  has worked as the director of financial services at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock since Oct. 2014.

“Mark has already shown to be a leader in his role as at UALR and from his previous experience at the Cooperative Extension Service,” said White. “He is going to do a great job helping to lead the Controller’s office into the future and through the ongoing Workday Enterprise Resource Planning implementation project.”

Hubbell has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Management from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri and a Master in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

“I am excited to be a part of the University and am looking forward to the challenges of this position,” Hubbell said. “I am grateful that I am able to work with Larrie Stolfi the next few months to help me understand the campus accounting system and facilitate the transition.”
