Two Veteran UAPD Officers Set to Retire
Officer Steve Meyer and K-9 officer Dingo
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Two well-known and popular University of Arkansas Police officers are retiring after lengthy service to the department.
Officer Steve Meyer has served for 43 years – essentially since the formation of the department. He has held many positions and received numerous awards throughout his career. For the past 10 years he has been highly visible as “The Bike Cop,” cycling around campus on patrol and always ready to answer questions, provide help when needed and generally serve as a friendly ambassador for the UAPD.
K-9 Dingo has served with the UAPD for 6 years – that’s 42 in dog years – and is very popular on Facebook and in U of A community, especially during exam periods when he visits groups of students needing some comfort and stress relief.
K-9 Dingo also specialized in the more serious duties of drug detection, tracking, handler protection, and article recovery.
Meyer and Dingo will be honored from 2-4 p.m. Friday, October 19 in room 240 of the Administrative Services Building.
Refreshments will be served at the drop-in reception, and there will be a short ceremony at 2:30 p.m. The campus community is invited to wish them a happy retirement.
