Native American Artist to Lead Sewing Circle
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, in partnership with the Indigenous Studies Program in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, will host a Community Sewing Circle from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the International Connections Lounge of the Arkansas Union.
Marie Watt, an artist from the Seneca Nation, will lead this collaborative art project, in which students, faculty, staff and the community are invited to use fabrics to build a tapestry of community expression.
Watt, whose work is featured in the Crystal Bridges’ exhibition Art for a New Understanding: Native Voices, 1950s to Now, created a series of “sewing circle” events, including this one, to bring the community together in artmaking and conversation.
This event is free and open to the public. No sewing experience is required, and all ages are welcome. Come lend your hands and your voice to the exchange!
