Improving U.S. High Schools Focus of Lecture

The Department of Education Reform resumes its 2018-19 Friday lunchtime lecture series with a look at the nation's high schools.

Harvard's Jal Mehta will address "The Elusive Quest for Ambitious Schooling: Inside the Effort to Remake the American High School."

The program, in Room 243 of the Graduate Education Building on the University of Arkansas campus, starts at noon Friday, Jan. 18.

Mehta is an associate professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Raised in Baltimore, his degrees all were earned at Harvard University. Mehta's faculty profile explains his "research explores the role of different forms of knowledge in tackling major social and political problems, particularly problems of human improvement." He has "a particular focus on the professionalization of teaching."

The hour-long program includes a light lunch those who register online before 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16.
