U of A Students Earn Gilman Scholarships to Study Abroad in 2019

Four University of Arkansas undergraduates have earned Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships. The awards will fund education abroad opportunities for the spring 2019 semester. Eight students were named early recipients for the summer 2019 term. Additionally, two students were named alternates for spring 2019.

The Gilman scholars will receive up to $5,000 to apply toward their study abroad costs.

The Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange will host the following Gilman Scholarship information sessions at the Center for World Languages in J.B. Hunt Transport Services Center Room 207 for students applying for the summer 2019, fall 2019 or academic year 2019-2020 cycle:

  • 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7
  • 12-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13
  • 3-4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18
  • 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26

The scholarship program aims to increase international experiences for U.S. students, so they will be better prepared to thrive in the increasingly global economy. The U.S. Department of State sponsors the program.

Gilman applications for students studying abroad in summer 2019, fall 2019 or academic year 2019-20 are now open and will close at 11:59 p.m. on March 5. Undergraduate Pell grant recipients may be eligible to apply.
